Session 1: Application (individual)
NOTE: This lesson was written as part of a retreat and is intended to follow Session 1 Individual. If you are processing the application portions with a small group, click here.
Purpose: to reflect briefly from your face to face time with God, gaining deeper understanding. Application is invited considering the focus of the retreat, by noting where you are at and where you would like to grow.
Debrief the individual time
- Did anything surprise you or bother you during the individual as you interacted with this story?
- Where would you be in this story if you had been present?
Apply to retreat theme
- How does this story invite you to take off any clothing that keeps you from being ready to follow Jesus’ invitation (v.21) to “then come, follow me”?
- How will you know when you have done this? (Write your answer in your journal – the purpose is not to go deeper with this now; rather, this will become a marker to be considered in Session 4 as we consider applications to continue after completion of this retreat).
Prayer/ Consider the things you need to let go of in order to better focus on this retreat. Pray for clarity and wisdom as you proceed.
