Series 23 The Gospel of Mark: Chapter 11

Rising Conflict in Jerusalem

 

Jesus enters Jerusalem.  Read and reread Mark 11 outloud, or listen to the chapter multiple times.

Notice the stories and events that Mark includes. What are the paradoxes and contrasts in each story?  As an observer in each story, what do you perceive as the general mood or atmosphere?

If you or your group is able, consider the stoires in the entire chapter; otherwise choose one to focus on using the following Ignatian study:

Reread or listen again to the passage from the perspetive of The People. Imagine yourself among the crowd as an onlooker.

  • What are your emotions?  What are you discussing with those beside you?  What do you hope will happen? Does anything surprise you?

Reread or listen from the perspetive of The Powers – the chief priests, scribes, and elders.

  • What are your emotions? What are you discussing with those beside you?  What do you hope will happen? Does anything surprise you?

Reread or listen again from the perspetive of The Disciples.

  • What are your emotions? What are you discussing with those beside you?  What do you hope will happen? Does anything surprise you?

Reread or listen again from the perspetive of Jesus.

  • What are your emotions?  What are you discussing with God?  What do you hope will happen?  Does anything surprise you?
