Take care with your heart!

Read Mark 7:1-23, visualizing a drama played out before you. Imagine the scene: the settings, the mood, the choreography of the actors.

  • Reread the entire passage, taking the part of a Pharisee or a scribe:
    • What emotions to you experience?  What are you thinking?  What are your questions? What are you hoping will happen?
  • Reread the entire passage, taking the part of one of the disciples:
    • What emotions to you experience?  What are you thinking?  What are your questions? What are you hoping will happen?
  • Reread the entire passage, in the role of Jesus:.
    • What emotions to you experience?  What are you thinking?  What are you hoping will happen?

What impacts you? Have you ever been criticized for your actions?

90% of what others say or do has nothing to do with you.  90% of your response is your responsibility.

 

Notice the kinds of “evil intentions” that can come out of the heart; who could be harmed in these situations? How are you following the greatest commandments of loving God and others?   Where and with whom are you being moved to act in imitating Jesus’ expansive, loving heart in relationships?
