Lectio: Read through Psalm 80 several times. As you read —
- Highlight the repeated refrain in verses 3, 7, 14, 19.
- Underline the questions.
- Highlight, in a different color, the several pleas to God.
- Circle the names and descriptions used for God. Notice the progression used in the name of God.
- List beside the text the type of words used: Praise, plea, question, complaint, refrain. Take note of the patterns that emerge.
Focus on the words and phrases that spoke to you as you immersed yourself in this Psalm. Repeat them several times, committing them to memory.
Pray the words of the Psalm that speak to your situation and community. Reflect these words back to God as a prayer from your heart.
Let these words sink deep into your soul: Restore us, Lord God Almighty; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.
Be silent before God, and listen. Be thankful.
