OBSERVATION
Write out phrase by phrase (in your journal, on computer) theses verses from Philippians 4:4-7 about fear. Underline all the key nouns, circle the key verbs. Then, using a dictionary or thesaurus, amplify the meaning of each key word by adding synonyms.
Read your amplified version out loud several times. Notice and record your feelings and thoughts.
Return to the passage and read verses 8-9. Write down all the adjectives that describe the kinds of things on which we are told to focus our thoughts.
APPLICATION
Classic Cognitive-Behavioral Theory demonstrates that when we choose to focus on more positive thoughts, our emotions will follow. Have you experienced this in your own life? Which of these aspects of focusing thoughts is your greatest challenge when circumstances are not peaceful?
