A PSALM OF THANKSGIVING

Psalm 100

Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!
    Worship the Lord with gladness.
Come before him, singing with joy.
Acknowledge that the Lord is God!
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;
go into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good.
His unfailing love continues forever,
and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

In the United States we have the tradition of setting aside the 4th Thursday in November as a day of Thanksgiving.  In the northern hemisphere it is the time when the produce of the land has been harvested and the harsh winter has not yet begun.  In the southern hemisphere it is the time when the beauty of God’s creation is evident in the new birth of spring and the warmth of summer is near.

Wherever we live, regardless of the language we speak, it is good to set aside a day to revel in the splendor of the created world God created for us to inhabit.

As you read through Psalm 100, spend some time reflecting on what it means to belong to the Lord and to be the recipients of his unfailing love that continues forever.

And give thanks, for the Lord is good!
