Series 23 The Gospel of Mark: Chapter 12

Questions??

Read or listen to the entire chapter of Mark 12. What do you notice? What is the mood of the chapter?  Notice characters present.

In a chapter where most sections are developed around a question, we will look most closely at the question that was a sincere request for information, Mark 12:28-34.

Place yourself in the role of the scribe as you reread the passage.

  • What are you really asking?  How do you view Jesus and his answers?  What emotions do you experience before, during and after Jesus’ answers?

Place yourself in the role of the Sadducees and the other scribes present in the temple as you reread the passage.

  • What are you really asking?  How do you view Jesus and his answers?  What emotions do you experience before, during and after Jesus’ answers?

Place yourself in the role of the disciples as you reread the passage.

  • What are you really wondering?  How do you view Jesus and his answers?  What emotions do you experience before, during and after Jesus’ answers?

Place yourself in the role of Jesus as you reread the passage.

  • What are you really wanting to communicate?  How do you view the scribe and his question and his responses?  What emotions do you experience?

Consider your own questions:

  • Notice your own emotions as you identified with the different characters and viewpoints.
    • What do you wonder about in the story?
  • Where might you place yourself in the story?
    • What would you have asked Jesus?
  • Do you have any questions you would like to ask him today?

Close with a time of listening prayer.  Perhaps you might take a walk, look out a window, move to music…in what ever way works for you, spend some time quieting your own thoughts and opening yourself – heart, soul, mind and strength – toward God and toward your neighbor.
