Advent: Light of the World – Lesson 6

Psalm 97 – Lectio Divina

Read: The last Sunday of Advent celebrates the appearing of Christ to the Magi.  As you read Psalm 97, imagine the joy and wonder of those who experienced the birth of the King firsthand.

Highlight or write in your journal the words and/or phrases that catch your attention as you read this Psalm a second time.

Meditate:  Repeat the words and phrases that you noted several times, writing them on your heart.  Commit them to memory if possible.

Pray:  In your time of prayer, use the words of the Psalm as a prayer of thanksgiving and worship to God.

Contemplate:  As you contemplate the events of the past year and look forward to the year ahead, consider where you can bring light and joy to those with whom you have contact on a regular basis.  Make a commitment to be light in your community, and write down specific ways in which you can carry that out.  Pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit both as you consider this task and seek to carry it out.
