Series 12 – Being Transformed – Lesson 4

CENTERING ACTIVITY:  Take a few minutes to quiet yourself.  Close your eyes and inhale deeply.  Exhale slowly, releasing the distractions from your life.

Write your full given name in large letters at the top of a piece of paper.

Reflect on the following questions:  What does your name mean?  Why were you given this name?  Do you like your name, or would you like to change it?  Why or why not?

Write your father’s family name/names. What messages have you received from your father’s family regarding who you are?

Write your mother’s family name/names.  What messages have you received from your mother’s family regarding who you are?

If you are married, or if another family raised you, write these family names.  What messages have you received from these families regarding who you are?

Divide a page in your journal down the center.

  • On the left, list the adjectives that define you from your reflections above.
  • Read Ephesians 1:1-14.  In the right column, list the adjectives that define you from this passage.
  • Compare and contrast the two lists, drawing connecting lines where helpful.
  • Notice the truths and lies that you have been taught.

Choose a phrase from Ephesians that most speaks truth to you.  Open your hands and hold this truth before God.  Invite God to help you incorporate this truth more fully in your life.  Take note in your journal of any impressions, feelings, thoughts.
